Carlo Ancelotti's men emerged 5-3 winners after extra time last Wednesday to lift their first piece of silverware this term, now with the task of defending their titles from last season.

Here’s what you need to know:

What: Spanish Copa del Rey

Who: Real Madrid vs. Atlético Madrid

When: Thursday, January 18, 2024

Time: 3:30 PM ET

Where: Civitas Metropolitan Stadium

TV: ESPN+

Memphis Depay was ruled out of the Super Cup tie on account of an adductor issue but may be passed fit to be named on the bench here.

Left-back Reinildo Mandava is on international duty with Mozambique at the Africa Cup of Nations, while Vitolo and Thomas Lemar are sure to miss out through injuries.

Pablo Barrios remains a doubt due to an illness, but Saul Niguez is in line to accompany Koke and Rodrigo de Paul in central midfield.

Aurelien Tchouameni is a doubt for Los Blancos, with Eduardo Camavinga available to slot in if required, while Lucas Vazquez, Eder Militao, Thibaut Courtois and David Alaba are all out injured.

Elsewhere, Ancelotti had confirmed that goalkeeper Andriy Lunin will start ahead of Kepa Arrizabalaga for the cup game.

Vinicius Junior's hat-trick inspired Los Blancos to a 4-1 victory over their El Clasico foes in Riyadh to secure a first title of the campaign for Carlo Ancelotti's team after beating Atletico in the semifinal. A derby tie will be a test for Ancelotti, but his team remain on course for a potential trophy quadruple this season, if they can win at the Estadio Metropolitano.

Diego Simeone is still without midfielder Pablo Barrios with Reinildo Mandava away on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Mozambique. Simeone is expected to make at least one change, following their 5-3 Supercopa semifinal defeat to Real Madrid, with Axel Witsel set to come back into the defence.

Despite the short gap in between returning from Riyadh and facing Atletico, Ancelotti will be relying on his key names to play successive games, with no change on the injury front. Andriy Lunin will keep his place in goal and Luka Modric could start in midfield for the visitors.

Real Madrid are in a superb run of form so far this season with their only defeat coming away in league action at Atletico Madrid back in September. Los Blancos have only managed to win one of their last five matches at the Estadio Metropolitano and the hosts have enjoyed a longer recovery period ahead of this match.

Memphis Depay is likely to only make the bench here while Reinildo is at the Africa Cup of Nations and Vitolo as well as Thomas Lemar are out. Pablo Barrios will need a late check but Saul Niguez should start alongside Koke and Rodrigo de Paul.

Aurelien Tchouameni could be a doubt to start while Lucas Vazquez is out and joins Eder Militao, Thibaut Courtois and David Alaba in the treatment room. Eduardo Camavinga is likely to start while Ancelotti has already confirmed that goalkeeper Andriy Lunin will start instead of Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Last week, these teams put on a show as Carlo Ancelotti’s side beat Diego Simeone‘s men in an eight-goal thriller that was decided on extra time. Therefore, all eyes will be on the upcoming match at the Civitas Metropolitano.

Simeone may have said that this won’t be a rematch because the winner won’t go through a final like it happened a week ago, but his team will certainly want to redeem itself after that loss in Saudi Arabia. Because, in fact, Real Madrid went on to win the trophy in the final against Barcelona.

It is once again a four-team tournament, taking place in Saudi Arabia, with the rivals facing off tonight in the first last-four clash, before defending champions Barcelona meet Osasuna tomorrow night.

Real will be confident of booking their place in Sunday's final, as they go into this match on a 19-match unbeaten run across all competitions.

Atletico were the last team to beat them though, in LaLiga back in September, and Diego Simeone's side will fancy their own chances of lifting this trophy for the first time in a decade.
